Serving the Tri-state region of Eastern Kentucky, Southern Ohio and Western West Virginia
Greetings!
It is with mixed emotions that I let you know that I have reached the
end of my four years of being your President. I have served as Vice
President under Karen Legrand and have continued to build upon the basics
that she and Mary Ann along with Anne Shuff, Richard Blake and many
others had put in place. All of the membership that have worked hard
behind the scenes or given of their time and talents I salute you.
As you may know, the offices of president, 1st vice president and 2nd vice president are unfilled at the moment. There were no names submitted for the 2011-2012 terms, therefore we had no candidates to vote for. Rest assured, KYOWVA will still continue to function, but we do need volunteers to fill these positions. If you are a member in good standing and would like to serve, let us know.
We also need volunteers to help staff the library on a rotating schedule, coordinate programs for our meetings, or assist with several ongoing projects. Please, if you can help in any way, have a program suggestion or volunteer for any of the open positions, let one of us know.
I have volunteered to be the librarian and have worked hard to catalog many of our new treasures for your enjoyment. Some examples are: Colonial Atlas, Carrie Elderidge Trails Atlas West of the Mississippi, Taylor Knob Church Book, new books by Robert Thompson, Union Missionary Baptist Church Records, several Wytheville, Virginia and Pittsylvania County, Virginia Vital Statistics and Court Records. These books are in the library on a shelf marked “New Books”. A complete list will be placed on our web page. I have cataloged the micro film and micro fiche and posted a sign on the bulletin board in the library for east reading of those titles. We also have an excellent collection on CD’s of various subjects as well. We have a top notch newsletter and are able to continue to publish it for your enjoyment. Many societies around the country have had to cease publication or have closed altogether. We are receiving some newsletters electronically via e-mail. We will have those on the desk top computer for your reading pleasure. Lawrence County, Ohio is one local newsletter now in electronic format. Anne has left us a library in wonderful shape and has made my future job easy – thank you, Anne.
Please come out and join us. We have a great time.
Debbie Campbell, KYOWVA Librarian
