2010 Calendar of Events

  • January 19, 2010: KYOWVA Regular Monthly Meeting - 7 p.m.
    Program will be followed by a short break and a business meeting. We will meet in our Library at the Second Presbyterian Church, 901 Jefferson Avenue, Huntington WV. All members and the general public are invited.

  • February 16, 2010: KYOWVA Regular Monthly Meeting - 7 p.m.
    Joe Geiger, West Virginia Archives and History Director will be our speaker. The program will followed by a short break and a business meeting. We will meet in our Library room at the Second Presbyterian Church, 901 Jefferson Avenue, Huntington WV. All members and the general public are invited.

  • February 18, 2010: West Virginia History Day at the Legislature
    The annual West Virginia History Day will be held at the State Capitol in Charleston, West Virginia. History Hero awards will be presented, followed by public recognition in the West Virginia State Legislature chamber. Many displays will be in the main capitol concourse.

  • March 16, 2010: KYOWVA Regular Monthly Meeting - 7 p.m.
    Bob Withers from the Collis P. Huntington Railroad Society will be our speaker. The program will be followed by a short break and a business meeting. We will meet in our Library room at the Second Presbyterian Church, 901 Jefferson Avenue, Huntington WV. All members and the general public are invited.

  • March 26-27, 2010: Hoot Owl Night in the West Virginia State Archives
    Research all night in the West Virginia State Archives and History Library from 6:00 p.m. Friday evening to 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning. Well-known genealogists will be on hand to help you with your research; tours behind the scenes of the Archives will be given. Participation i s limited to 50. Registration is $25.00 by check or money order payable to Mining Your History Foundation, postmarked by March 12 with a late registration fee of $35.00 provided space is available. A downloadable registration form is available at the West Virginia Archives website.

  • April 20, 2010: KYOWVA Regular Monthly Meeting - 7 p.m.
    We will tour the J. Taylor Auto Collection Museum with a display of over 30 antique automobiles from 1914 on. The tour will be followed by a short break and a business meeting. We will meet in our Library room at the Second Presbyterian Church, 901 Jefferson Avenue, Huntington WV. All members and the general public are invited.

  • May 18, 2010: KYOWVA Regular Monthly Meeting - 7 p.m.
    Program will be followed by a short break and a business meeting. We will meet in our Library room at the Second Presbyterian Church, 901 Jefferson Avenue, Huntington WV. All members and the general public are invited.

  • June 15, 2010: KYOWVA Regular Monthly Meeting - 7 p.m.
    Program will be followed by a short break and a business meeting. We will meet in our Library room at the Second Presbyterian Church, 901 Jefferson Avenue, Huntington WV. All members and the general public are invited.

  • July - August: No monthly meetings. KYOWVA Library open regular hours

  • July 4th Weekend, 2010: Guyandotte's Bi-Centennial Celebration
    The community of Guyandotte (home of the Guyandotte Civil War Days re-enactment in November) in Huntington, West Virginia was founded in 1810. Plans are underway for a community-wide 200th Birthday celebration during the Fourth of July weekend in 2010. Watch for details.

  • September 2010: KYOWVA Annual Picnic - 6 p.m.
    Time, place and date to be announced.

  • October 19, 2010: KYOWVA Regular Monthly Meeting - 7 p.m.
    Program will be followed by a short break and a business meeting. We will meet in our Library room at the Second Presbyterian Church, 901 Jefferson Avenue, Huntington WV. All members and the general public are invited.

  • November 6-7, 2010: Guyandotte Civil War Days: Annual re-enactment of the Confederate raid on the town of Guyandotte, Virginia (now West Virginia). On November 11, 1861 Union troops burned the town in retaliation over the previous day's raid by the Confederates and the townspeople's alleged collaboration with the Confederate raiders. The re-enactment of the Confederate raid on Saturday, and the retaking of Guyandotte by the Union Troops on Sunday take place in the very same neighborhood as the actual events in 1861. Attendance is free and open to the public. See the Guyandotte Civil War Days website for event information and schedule.

  • November 16, 2010: KYOWVA Regular Monthly Meeting - 7 p.m.
    Program will be followed by a short break and a business meeting. We will meet in our Library room at the Second Presbyterian Church, 901 Jefferson Avenue, Huntington WV. All members and the general public are invited.

  • December 2010: KYOWVA Christmas Dinner
